Built for lawyers,
by lawyers.
It started with one case: One evening, piecing together a file that should’ve taken minutes. The usual flipping through notebooks, trying to remember which note went where, and a client waiting to hear what happens next.
That’s the moment Courtmate was born; not as a business plan, but as a promise to ourselves: no lawyer should lose an evening to something that isn’t the law.
So we built the tool we wished we had, for the practice we know, and the system we’re determined to see move faster.
Who we are
Shevindri Manuel is an Attorney-at-Law and the Founder of Courtmate, with a career built across the courtroom and the wider justice system. Her work spans criminal law and human rights, alongside years spent driving access to justice and legal empowerment across South Asia.
That dual vantage point, practising law and working to reform how justice systems function, is what shaped Courtmate.
“I built Courtmate because I was tired of watching good lawyers lose time to bad systems, and the system deserves tools that move as fast as the people practising it.”
Joel Wickremasinghe, Product Advisor, is the one who brought that vision to life. With over 14 years of executive leadership at the intersection of IT project management, software engineering governance, and enterprise delivery, he’s spent his career turning ideas into products people actually use. Having led multi-million-dollar software portfolios across global enterprise SaaS, telecommunications, banking/fintech, e-government, and UN agencies, he shapes Courtmate’s product direction and technical roadmap, working closely with Shevindri to translate her experience on the ground into a tool lawyers can rely on.
“Technology has fixed inefficiency in almost every other industry, there’s no reason the legal system should be the exception.” says Joel.
